Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450 | 200 MC4 is an ultra-high-efficiency, high-voltage solar charge controller designed for large off-grid solar systems, residential battery banks, commercial mobile power, and advanced RV/marine systems requiring high solar throughput. Supporting an exceptional 450V PV open-circuit voltage and delivering 200A of total charge output (two independent 100A outputs), this controller is engineered for premium high-voltage PV designs.
The RS 450 | 200 features two independent MPPT trackers, each with MC4-ready inputs, enabling extremely efficient PV array configuration using high-voltage strings of 60-cell, 72-cell, or large-format modules.
It integrates seamlessly with the full Victron ecosystem via VE.Can, VE.Direct, and built-in Bluetooth Smart for complete configuration and monitoring through VictronConnect.
Refer to your SmartSolar RS user manual (uploaded earlier) for wiring diagrams, dual-MPPT configurations, breaker sizing, lithium battery setup, grounding rules, cold-temperature Voc calculations, and advanced CANbus integration.
Solar Array Capability
With a PV input rating of 450V per tracker, the RS 450 | 200 supports exceptionally long series strings, making it ideal for large rooftop arrays and ground-mounted off-grid systems.
Maximum Recommended Solar Array Size
(per combined output capacity)
| Battery Voltage | Max Charge Output | Max Recommended Solar |
|---|---|---|
| 24V system | 200A | ≈ 5,000W |
| 48V system | 200A | ≈ 10,000W |
Oversized arrays are allowed—controller will safely limit output.
Engineering Solar Table (Vmp / Imp / Series Limits)
| Panel Type | Typical Vmp | Typical Imp | Max Panels in Series (450V limit) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60-cell house panel | 30–33V | 8–9A | Up to 12S | Most common for off-grid homes |
| 72-cell house panel | 37–39V | 8–10A | Up to 10S | Great for large ground arrays |
| 144-cell bifacial panel | 39–41V | 10–13A | Up to 10S | High output, excellent for 48V systems |
| 24V 350–450W panel | 32–38V | 9–11A | Up to 11S | Ideal for hybrid PV setups |
| 12V RV panel (100W) | 18–19V | 5–6A | Up to 24S | Not recommended—current too low for RS systems |
This model excels when paired with residential or commercial solar modules, not RV panels.
