Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250 | 60 is a high-voltage, high-capacity MPPT controller designed for medium to large off-grid solar power systems. Supporting up to 250V PV open-circuit voltage (Voc) and delivering a full 60A of charge output, this controller is ideal for RVs, 5th wheels, vans, expedition rigs, tiny homes, marine systems, off-grid cabins, and residential-style PV systems that use high-voltage strings.
Victron’s Ultra-Fast MPPT algorithm continuously tracks the optimal power point, maximizing solar harvest in real time—even in conditions of partial shade, cloud cover, or winter low-light environments. With integrated Bluetooth Smart, users can configure, monitor, and troubleshoot via the VictronConnect app. The VE.Direct port provides connection options for Cerbo GX and full Victron system integration.
Refer to the SmartSolar MPPT manual for wiring diagrams, battery programming (including lithium profiles), fusing, breaker requirements, and cold-temperature PV voltage considerations when designing high-voltage strings.
Solar Array Capability
Because the 250 | 60 supports an exceptionally high 250V PV input, it allows long cable runs, large roof arrays, and compatibility with multiple residential solar panels wired in series.
Maximum Recommended Solar Array Size
| Battery Voltage | Max Charge Amps | Max Recommended Solar |
|---|---|---|
| 12V system | 60A | ≈ 860W |
| 24V system | 60A | ≈ 1,700W |
| 48V system | 60A | ≈ 3,400W |
Oversizing beyond these recommendations is allowed—controller safely limits to 60A.
Engineering Solar Table (Vmp / Imp / String Limits)
| Panel Type | Typical Vmp | Typical Imp | Max Panels in Series (250V limit) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12V 100W panel | 18–19V | 5–6A | Up to 12S | Works well for long RV arrays |
| 12V 200W panel | 18–20V | 9–10A | Up to 12S | May clip at 12V charging |
| 24V 200–250W panel | 34–38V | 6–8A | Up to 6S | Ideal on 24V systems |
| 24V 350–400W panel | 32–38V | 9–11A | Up to 6S | Great for tiny homes and marine installs |
| 60-cell house panel | 30–33V | 8–9A | 7S (check cold Voc) | Perfect for off-grid cabins and high-voltage arrays |
| 72-cell house panel | 37–39V | 8–10A | 6S (cold Voc caution) | Extremely efficient when paired with 48V batteries |
