Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250 | 100 is a high-performance, high-voltage solar charge controller engineered for large off-grid solar installations. With support for up to 250V PV open-circuit voltage (Voc) and a powerful 100A charging output, this controller is ideal for off-grid cabins, tiny homes, mobile work trailers, marine systems, large RV builds, and residential-style PV arrays using high-voltage strings.
Victron’s Ultra-Fast Maximum Power Point Tracking continuously optimizes solar harvest even under shading, cloud transitions, and low-light conditions. The controller includes Bluetooth Smart for real-time programming and system monitoring, and integrates into a full Victron ecosystem using VE.Direct.
Refer to your uploaded SmartSolar MPPT user manual for wiring diagrams, lithium battery settings, cold-weather PV voltage calculations, fusing, and multi-string design guidelines.
Solar Array Capability
The SmartSolar MPPT 250 | 100 supports high-voltage series strings up to 250V, allowing efficient system design using modern 60-cell, 72-cell, and bifacial residential panels.
Maximum Recommended Solar Array Size
| Battery Voltage | Max Charge Amps | Max Recommended Solar |
|---|---|---|
| 12V system | 100A | ≈ 1,450W |
| 24V system | 100A | ≈ 2,900W |
| 48V system | 100A | ≈ 5,800W |
Oversizing the array is safe—the controller limits output to 100A.
Engineering Solar Table (Vmp / Imp / Series Limits)
| Panel Type | Typical Vmp | Typical Imp | Max Panels in Series (250V limit) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60-cell residential panel | 30–33V | 8–9A | Up to 7S | Ideal for cabins & remote power systems |
| 72-cell residential panel | 37–39V | 8–10A | Up to 6S | Great for 48V systems |
| 144-half-cut module | 38–41V | 10–13A | Up to 6S | Best choice for large, efficient solar arrays |
| 24V 350–450W panel | 32–38V | 9–11A | Up to 7S | Excellent for marine & tiny homes |
| 12V 100W RV panel | 18–19V | 5–6A | Up to 13S | Not recommended—low current for this MPPT class |
This controller is optimized for residential-grade solar panels, not small RV-style modules.
