Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250 | 100 MC4 is a powerful high-voltage MPPT charge controller designed for large off-grid solar systems. With support for up to 250V PV open-circuit voltage (Voc) and a full 100A charging output, this controller is ideal for off-grid cabins, tiny homes, vans, marine systems, and RVs using high-voltage residential solar panels.
This MC4 version includes factory-installed MC4 connectors, allowing fast, safe, and reliable PV wiring without needing exposed terminals. MC4 inputs support long series strings and simplify rooftop installations using modern residential PV modules.
Victron’s Ultra-Fast Maximum Power Point Tracking technology maximizes energy harvest even during shading, low sunlight, and rapidly changing conditions. With built-in Bluetooth Smart and VE.Direct connectivity, the MPPT 250 | 100 MC4 integrates seamlessly with the Victron ecosystem, including Cerbo GX systems.
Refer to your uploaded SmartSolar MPPT manual for wiring diagrams, fusing requirements, battery configuration (AGM, GEL, LiFePO₄), and cold-weather PV voltage calculations.
Solar Array Capability
The 250 | 100 MC4 supports long, high-voltage PV strings up to 250V—perfect for 60-cell, 72-cell, and bifacial solar modules.
Maximum Recommended Solar Array Size
| Battery Voltage | Max Charge Amps | Max Recommended Solar |
|---|---|---|
| 12V system | 100A | ≈ 1,450W |
| 24V system | 100A | ≈ 2,900W |
| 48V system | 100A | ≈ 5,800W |
Oversized PV arrays are allowed—the controller safely limits charging to 100A.
Engineering Solar Table (Vmp / Imp / Series Limits)
| Panel Type | Typical Vmp | Typical Imp | Max Panels in Series (250V limit) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60-cell residential panel | 30–33V | 8–9A | Up to 7S | Best for off-grid cabins and homes |
| 72-cell residential panel | 37–39V | 8–10A | Up to 6S | Excellent for 48V systems |
| 144-half-cut module | 38–41V | 10–13A | Up to 6S | High-efficiency bifacial modules |
| 24V 350–450W panel | 32–38V | 9–11A | Up to 7S | Ideal for tiny homes and marine power |
| 12V RV 100W panel | 18–19V | 5–6A | Up to 13S | Not recommended—low current relative to capacity |
This MC4 version is designed specifically for residential/commercial solar modules, not small RV 12V panels.
