Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250 | 70 MC4 is a high-voltage, high-efficiency MPPT controller designed for medium and large off-grid solar systems. Featuring factory-installed MC4 connectors, this model provides faster installation, safer PV terminations, and compatibility with modern solar wiring standards.
Supporting up to 250V PV open-circuit voltage and delivering 70A of charging current, this controller is ideal for RV and van systems using large residential panels, marine installations, tiny homes, cabins, and mobile commercial solar power systems.
Victron’s Ultra-Fast MPPT tracking enhances energy harvest even in low-light, partial shade, or rapidly changing conditions. With built-in Bluetooth Smart, users can monitor and configure the system using VictronConnect. VE.Direct provides full integration with Cerbo GX and other Victron monitoring systems.
Use the SmartSolar MPPT user manual you uploaded for wiring diagrams, lithium battery setup, fusing, breaker sizing, and high-voltage PV array design.
Solar Array Capability
The MPPT 250 | 70 MC4 supports long, high-voltage strings up to 250V, ideal for residential and commercial solar panels.
Maximum Recommended Solar Array Size
| Battery Voltage | Max Charge Amps | Max Recommended Solar |
|---|---|---|
| 12V system | 70A | ≈ 1,000W |
| 24V system | 70A | ≈ 2,000W |
| 48V system | 70A | ≈ 4,000W |
Oversized arrays are safe—the controller limits charging to 70A.
Engineering Solar Table (Vmp / Imp / Series Limits)
| Panel Type | Vmp Range | Imp Range | Max Panels in Series (250V limit) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60-cell residential panel | 30–33V | 8–9A | Up to 7S | Most common for off-grid homes |
| 72-cell residential panel | 37–39V | 8–10A | Up to 6S | Excellent for 48V systems |
| 144-half-cut module | 38–41V | 10–13A | Up to 6S | High-yield modern PV modules |
| 24V 350–450W module | 32–38V | 9–11A | Up to 7S | Perfect for tiny homes / cabins |
| 12V RV 100W module | 18–19V | 5–6A | Up to 13S | Not ideal—low current relative to capacity |
This MC4 version is optimized specifically for modern residential/commercial modules, not legacy RV panels.
