Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150 | 35 is a versatile mid-size charge controller engineered for RVs, off-grid cabins, vans, boats, tiny homes, and mobile work trailers. With support for up to 150V PV open-circuit voltage (Voc) and 35A of charging output, it easily manages medium-sized solar arrays configured for 12V, 24V, or 48V battery systems.
Victron’s Ultra-Fast Maximum Power Point Tracking continuously optimizes solar production throughout the day, recovering up to 30% more energy than PWM controllers and significantly outperforming slower MPPT designs under partial shading or cloud movement.
The 150/35 includes Bluetooth Smart for wireless configuration via the VictronConnect app, along with VE.Direct communication, programmable charge profiles, and advanced protection features.
For wiring diagrams, fuse sizing, grounding rules, and configuration settings, refer to the SmartSolar MPPT user manual you uploaded earlier.
☀️ SOLAR ARRAY CAPABILITY
The MPPT 150 | 35 supports series-wired solar strings up to 150V Voc, enabling long cable runs with minimal voltage drop and high-voltage residential-style solar modules.
Maximum output power is limited by its 35A charge rating, which scales according to system voltage.
Maximum Recommended Solar Array Size
| Battery Voltage | Max Charge Amps | Max Solar Wattage (Recommended) |
|---|---|---|
| 12V system | 35A | ≈ 500W |
| 24V system | 35A | ≈ 1,000W |
| 48V system | 35A | ≈ 2,000W |
The controller will safely limit charging current to 35A even if the solar array is slightly oversized.
📐 Solar Engineering Table (Vmp / Imp & String Design)
| Panel Type | Typical Vmp | Typical Imp | Safe Series Count (150V max) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12V 100W panel | ~18V | 5–6A | Up to 6S | Common RV panels |
| 12V 200W panel | ~18–20V | 9–10A | Up to 6S | May current-limit at 12V |
| 24V 200–250W panel | ~34–38V | 6–8A | Up to 3S | Ideal for 24V charging |
| 24V 350–400W panel | ~32–38V | 9–11A | Up to 3S | Great for long cable runs |
| 60-cell residential panel | 31–33V | 8–9A | Up to 4S | Perfect for cabins/off-grid homes |
For most RV and mobile installations, the best-performing setups are:
- 2–3 × 200W panels
- 4 × 100W panels in 2S2P
- 2 × 350W residential panels
